Concert: J.S. BACH
«Jesus nahm zu sich die Zwölfe »
Audition cantatas of 1723

Focusing on the repertoire J.S. Bach composed at the time of his audition for the position of Cantor at the Thomaskirche in Leipzig, this concert will include cantatas BWV 22 and 23, as well as the first one he composed and conducted after his appointment (BWV 75). These are among the most important pieces of sacred music for voices and instruments written during the first part of Bach’s career. In addition to the instrumentalists of the Early Music Department, the concert will feature an ensemble of singers from the Vocal and Early Music Departments of the HEM, who will perform alongside the soloists of Gli Angeli Geneve and their director, baritone Stephan MacLeod.
